JABALPUR: The police's timely intervention foiled a middle-aged woman's bid to perform sati on Saturday at Simri village in Panna district of Madhya Pradesh.

JABALPUR: The police''s timely intervention foiled a middle-aged woman''s bid to perform sati on Saturday at Simri village in Panna district of Madhya Pradesh.
It is learnt that Foolrani (40) declared her intention to become sati when her husband Sunderlal Shivhara (47) died on Saturday after prolonged illness. Her declaration found favour with some villagers but others got wind of the move and informed the police.

Confirming the incident, superintendent of police (SP) Yogesh Deshmukh told TNN that as soon as he got the news, a police party was rushed to the spot. The police team left the spot only after the cremation. The widow was persuaded to withdraw her decision. According to the SP, the situation in the village was absolutely peaceful. However, five police personnel have been deployed there as a precautionary measure.
